Welcome to Washington Fina Mendoza, the first book in The Fina Mendoza Mysteries series, won the Readers' Favorite Award. The books have been praised by both sides of the aisle in Congress, as well as by U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
Speaking Engagements and School Presentations:
Kitty has introduced civics in classroom visits around the country. She starts by helping kids locate Washington, DC on a map and ends with a writing exercise: kids use pre-stamped postcards addressed to their member of Congress to write about one issue they care about.
Kitty has presented at the U.S. Capitol Historical Society, the American Library Association annual convention, the National Council for the Social Studies convention, the National Council for Teachers of English convention, and delivered a TEDx talk.
